Recovery Counselor

Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is currently seeking a Recovery Counselor for The Health Center at Faith Mission in Columbus, Ohio. Faith Mission is one of the largest homeless shelters in Columbus, Ohio, providing meals and shelter to men, women and Veterans with dignity and compassion.

REQUIREMENTS for a Recovery Counselor with Lutheran Social Services:

  • Masters degree in Social Work, Counseling, Addiction Counseling, or other behavioral science preferred
  • License to practice social work, counseling, or chemical dependency counseling required.
  • Two years of experience working in a social service setting required.
  • Experience working with people with substance use disorders required.
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness and mental health disorders preferred
  • Experience and training with Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Harm Reduction preferred.
  • Administrative reporting experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES for a Recovery Counselor with Lutheran Social Services:

  • Provide treatment and support services for health center patients with substance use disorders, including screening, assessment, diagnosis, counseling, recovery support activities, and referral to other treatment and support resources.
  • Conducts psycho-educational groups; assists consumer in peer group support to facilitate problem solving, communication skills development and personal growth; support in achieving recovery goals as reflected in the consumer's screening, assessment, treatment plan or discharge summary.
  • Provide crisis intervention services for patients, families, and others as needed.
  • Provide outreach and engagement services with people who may be at risk of substance use. This includes outreach in the health center, other Faith Mission / LSSCO programs, and in the community.
  • Coordinate recovery treatment and support with other healthcare staff to ensure the delivery of patient focused, integrated health care.
  • Provide education, training, and coaching for staff members and partners with regard to treatment and support for substance use disorders.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation for treatment and support services provided.
  • Assist with program data and statistics and participate in Quality Improvement activities.
  • Help meet standards set by HRSA and other accreditation standards for clinical competency.
  • Develop and foster relationships with other community providers and partners, including court and law enforcement, hospitals, residential programs, outpatient treatment programs, peer-based services and programs, and family and community groups.
  • Contribute to an atmosphere of safety, sanctuary, dignity, support and resource through adherence to the Faith Mission Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
